Windows Laptop and PC Clients

Overview

The AccessMyLan VPN client provides any remote Windows PC or Laptop with access to all applications in the office including e-mail, file shares and printers. Applications work exactly as they do in the office without any reconfiguration. All that is needed is an Internet connection over DSL, Cable, WiFi or cellular network and the AccessMyLan VPN client installed on the PC.

VPN Client Setup

AccessMyLan makes it easy to setup remote PCs to connect to the office. Via the administration website, the VPN administrator can setup the PC directly or send an self-install invitation e-mail to the remote user. The VPN Client setup will transparently configure the standard Windows VPN client and deploy an AccessMyLan digital certificate. All the remote user then needs to do is click on the AccessMyLan desktop icon and enter their username and password.

Technology

The AccessMyLan VPN Client is an enhancement of the VPN client included as standard in Windows. The AccessMyLan VPN Client uses L2TP/IPSec to communicate securely with the AccessMyLan data centre. Digital certificates are used to establish the secure connection over which the user is authenticated. The VPN Administrator can optionally perform end-point checks on the remote client to verify domain membership and certificate ownership. Remote clients that fail the tests can have access restricted or blocked completely as defined by the VPN Administrator.

Remote PCs using mobile data cards can be configured to connect to AccessMyLan using an AccessMyLan specific connection on the data card, and the standard Internet connection can be removed. This provides greater security and control over how the data card is used and enables Internet traffic to be routed via the company network to enforce corporate policies on Internet use/abuse. The data card is turned from offering full internet access to an office only connection. Contact support@AccessMyLan.com for a list of mobile operator partners that support this feature.
